OCR: Once distributed throughout the Sahara, there are now thought to be only a few dozen left in Algeria, Niger and the Sudan. Desert antelope are adapted to survive on tough, dry grasses, supplemented with foliage. The common oryx can endure heat and dessication by allowing its body temperature to rise as high as 113ºF, and it can obtain moisture from water-storing roots and tubers when water is unavailable.
